Blood Brothers and sisters!

What are the components of our blood? Syrup, red food colouring, milk and vegetable oil? Well no, but those ingredients did help Year 6 create replica blood samples and thus gain a greater understanding of what goes to make up real blood inside a human body. The syrup and food colouring represented red blood cells and haemoglobin which carry oxygen and nutrients, the milk represented white blood cells and platelets which together fight germs and heal wounds and the vegetable oil represented plasma, the golden fluid in which the other components float. Great fun to make and a few sticky fingers (and tables!) afterwards…
