We have enjoyed learning about China this half term. This culminated in a New Year’s feast with Year 1. Using chopsticks was interesting!

We have been learning how to measure accurately using metres and centimetres in Maths this week. The class have worked reciprocally together to measure a variety of things.
We have been making links between multiplication and division in Maths. It has been great to see the children helping each other.

We like giving out awards in Year 2. We have been looking for children who work well together in particular this week. Today I was pleased to award several children with certificates for moving up our learning tree 5 times, this means they have had 50 times of good effort and achievement already!
We have had very mixed weather recently but Class Two enjoyed planting seeds in their flowerbed with Mrs Hazell this week. It will be interesting to see what appears in Spring.
In Science we have been testing reflective materials to see which would be best to help Hansel and Gretel find their way home through the forest.
As part of our English lesson we had a visit from the witch this week, who told us all about her Gingerbread House in the woods and how she had captured Hansel and Gretel. We hope she doesn’t return again too soon!
As part of our topic on the local area we visited Portland Museum. We saw local landmarks such as castles and a pirates graveyard and learnt about some of the unusual customs of Portland in the past.
Year 2 have been enjoying tennis lessons with Ryan Bissett for the last few weeks. We have experienced a range of weather conditions from snow to warm sunshine!
