Key Stage 1
From the reception classroom, the children move into Unit 1 where we have our year 1 and 2 classes. Key Stage 1 builds upon the learning that takes place during the Foundation Stage.
We provide a curriculum with a variety of opportunities and exciting experiences to encourage the children to grow in confidence, become more articulate and interact socially with other children and adults.
Phonics is taught daily in Year 1 and there is support from a qualified teacher for children in Year 1 and Year 2 who need it. Phonics is taught using a range of different materials, drawn from a number of different schemes, such as Read, Write, Inc. Please come and ask us if you’d like to find out more about how we teach phonics.
Our teaching in Key Stage 1 is based on the core subjects of the National Curriculum, as well as providing weekly enrichment activities such as cooking, gardening, ICT and Art.
Our children consistently achieve standards above the national average at the end of Key stage 1.
