Ready for Rugby

As you know, Year 4 do Physical Education (PE for short) on a Thursday and this half term we are focusing on tag rugby. Over the past couple of weeks, through various skills and drills, we have been learning about the fundamentals of tag rugby. We have developed our ability to pass the ball using the ‘row the boat’ action. We have also learnt that we can only pass backwards in rugby and therefore it is important to run forwards where possible with teammates supporting from behind.

Today with Mrs. Murray, the children have learnt how to score a try in tag rugby which, contrary to popular opinion, doesn’t involve a Superman dive over the line! We also introduced the tags into the session this afternoon. Children learnt that a player must pass the ball to a teammate if they are tagged by an opposing player. The children really enjoyed trying to dodge and avoid being caught as they tried to progress to the other side of the playing area.

A really positive start to our PE lessons and the children have been fantastic! Well done, Year 4.
