Southill vs Redlands – The Rematch

Southill vs Redlands – The Rematch

After the success of last year’s football friendly between Southill and Redlands, it was time for the two teams to grace the pitch once again.

In the first half, Southill struggled to build any fluidity in the game and our goalkeeper had to make some fantastic saves. However after 15 minutes, Redlands broke down the right hand side and scored low into the bottom corner making it 1-0 to the away side. Unfortunately, just before half time, a miscommunication between two players results in an own goal, making it 2-0 to Redlands.

The girls were nervy in the first part of the game, however after a team talk we were ready to show determination and resilience and perform better in the second half. After some lovely build-up play down the wing, the ball was crossed into the box where the our other winger was waiting to calmly control it and tap it into the bottom corner, making it 2-1! Southill piled on the pressure in the second half and had a number of chances to draw the game. However, in our attempt to score, Redlands ended up scoring on the counter attack making the final score 3-1 to Redlands.

A bad day at the office for Southill and things didn’t seem to click today. Nevertheless, I know the team will be desperate to put that result behind them and win their next game. Well done on drawing the second half, girls. That showed real grit and you never let you heads drop.

A huge congratulations to Redlands for winning and I hope everybody who played (and watched) enjoyed the match.
