Southill’s Got Talent

What a night! Our very first Southill’s Got Talent spectacular was a resounding success with credit to our truly fantastic and terrifically talented pupils!

Here at Southill, we regularly have the pleasure of enjoying end-of-term talent concerts and are always impressed by the efforts of our children. And so, it seemed a logical (and a rather delightful) decision to showcase our talent, sharing with our wider school community and with that an excellent opportunity for them to build confidence by performing at such a gig. Once we get an idea, we like to see it through and that’s just what we did this week in true Southill style! We were blown away by our children’s skills, enthusiasm and their support for each other too. It was incredible!

Raising funds for our much-needed music studio, families of those performing came along but we were also so pleased to welcome pupils (from past and present) and those who were keen to support our acts. Great gratitude goes towards everyone who had a hand in this event – from backstage management, stage hands, photography, tickets and programme sales and of course the launch of our SPS Bar. Not forgetting Mr Mason who gave a memorable (and sparkly) performance as the evening’s coolest compere and of course to Mr Bell, for all his teaching, training and expertise.

So, why are we fundraising? We are very proud of our rich musical curriculum with a dedicated music teacher who focuses on engaging pupils with creative and practical lessons. Our pupils learn how to compose, sing and how to play a wide variety of instruments, with tuition from visiting teachers too. In addition, children thrive on opportunities to join our very own Rock Band and POP Stars groups, with regular concerts and performances to their families and at school events. Despite all this brilliance, our school severely lacks designated space for pupils to practise and to take part in lessons. At present, a very small room is shared for many purposes and often with a clash of timings and a heavy restriction on numbers and storage. A music studio at Southill Primary would allow us to better invest in the future of all our children, nurturing their talents and enabling them to flourish and meet their full potential. We are passionate about the arts and we are passionate about our super, talented pupils.  We are thrilled to announce that this particular evening raised a super £536.65 for our fundraising project:

We have a way to go, so stay tuned for further fundraising events with exciting updates, media pieces and a dedicated progress page too. We are so grateful to the support of our community. If you’d like to donate before then, the page for this evening is still open HERE

We’d also like to thank everyone who auditioned (you are all amazing!) and to Hall & Woodhouse for donations of beer and to Palmers for our raffle prize of a brewery tour.  Wow!

Same time next year everyone?!
