Collective Worship

Acts of Collective Worship (referred to as ‘assemblies’) are very much part of our school life. They provide an opportunity to enhance the community life and atmosphere of the school. Assemblies are used to illustrate and embed the values and principles which underpin the Southill ethos. It is important all staff and children are involved in whole school assemblies, however a child can be withdrawn if their parents have made a special request on grounds of faith. At Southill we have whole school and year group assemblies:

Mondays at 2.45pm: led by one of the teaching staff, generally reflecting on a curriculum subject or a school/news event, or a theme which promotes good relationships and citizenship

Tuesdays: Singing Practice in Key Stage groups

Wednesday: Unit assemblies (R/1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6)

Thursdays: Our 2%er assemblies – full of awards, celebrations and achievements. (Don’t know what a 2%er is? Ask one of our pupils!)

Friday at 2.45pm: Celebration assembly in which a Star Learner from each class is celebrated. Parents are invited to this assembly so they can share in the celebration with their child. During this assembly, we also hear from pupils who have achieved something fabulous in a club outside of school – eg swimming, dancing or football.
