The School Day
Our school is organised into three stages:
Foundation Stage (Reception Class)
Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6)
The school’s hours are:
8.45 am – the outside doors are opened. Pupils should not arrive before this time.
8.55 am – school begins and lessons start promptly.
10.40-10.55 am – mid-morning break for all children.
12.00 pm – lunchtime.
1.00 pm – afternoon session begins.
2.00-2.10 pm – Reception and KS1 afternoon break.
3.15 pm – end of school.
Acts of Collective Worship (referred to as ‘assemblies’) are very much part of our school life. They provide an opportunity to enhance the community life and atmosphere of the school. Assemblies are used to illustrate and embed the values and principles which underpin the Southill ethos. It is important all staff and children are involved in whole school assemblies, however a child can be withdrawn if their parents have made a special request on grounds of faith. At Southill we have whole school and year group assemblies:
Mondays at 2.45pm: led by Mr Mason or Mrs Wood (generally reflecting on a school or news event, or a theme which promotes good relationships and citizenship)
Tuesdays at 10.20 – 10.40am: Singing Practice led by Mr Price
Wednesday: Unit assemblies (R/1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6)
Thursdays at 9.00am: staff or visitor assembly. These might also be a class assembly (to which parents are invited) or a talk from Pip, the local vicar (and Governor)
Friday at 2.30pm: Celebration assembly in which a Star Learner and Star Citizen from each class are celebrated. Parents are invited to this assembly so they can see their children being presented with a certificate. Have a look here to see what goes on.
