Summer Term 2024
 Year 6

Welcome to Year 6! Here you will find all of the key information about what the children are getting up to this term. The door for Year 6 will be opened at 8:45am and will close at 8.55am for registration. Please ensure children arrive on time to ensure that they can settle into the school day successfully.

Reading

Our first novel this term is Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston – a supernatural adventure, which follows the life of Amari, whose brother has recently gone missing. Amari finds herself battling evil magicians, living with a weredragon and trying out for the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs all whilst trying to solve the mystery of her brother. After that, we will enjoy My Brother is a Superhero by David Solomons – our transition novel ready to move up to secondary school. This is a hilarious story about Luke, who is a comic-mad eleven-year-old who shares a treehouse with his older brother, Zach. Luke’s only mistake is to need a wee right at the wrong moment. While he’s gone, an alien gives his undeserving, never-read-a-comic-in-his-life brother superpowers, then tells him to save the universe!

Reading continues to be an important part of the day. Please ensure that your child reads at home daily and that this is recorded in their reading record. Your child’s reading book and reading record need to be sent into school daily to enable us to read at school, change books and monitor your child’s reading progress. A mixture of them reading to an adult as well as reading independently is encouraged in order for children to develop their fluency and comprehension.

Writing

As writers, we will be writing our own narratives inspired by the book Skellig. We will also be writing our own persuasive letters.

Then in Maths, we will be learning new topics such as coordinates, area, perimeter and volume, and continuing our learning of algebra.
