Dear Families
We are excited to invite our children to a special celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, a significant moment in history that marked the end of World War II in Europe. It’s a day to remember the importance of peace and unity, and to reflect on the values of safety and belonging that we strive to uphold in our school community. Our celebration day is on Friday 9 May.
Dress Code for the Day
To mark this important occasion, we invite all children to accessorise their school uniforms with something red, white and blue. This could be a ribbon, a hat or any other creative accessory that captures the spirit of the day.
Morning Activities
Throughout the morning, children will engage in educational activities designed to help them understand the significance of VE Day. They will learn about the history behind this day and discuss the importance of living in a peaceful world where everyone feels safe and included.
Creative Expression
As part of our celebration, children will participate in creating a peace pledge. Each child will have the opportunity to express their thoughts and hopes for a peaceful world on a piece of bunting. These pledges will be displayed around the school, creating a visual representation of our commitment to peace and unity.
Lunchtime Street Party
For lunch, we will host a street party where children can enjoy their meals together. It will be a wonderful opportunity for them to experience the camaraderie and joy that marked the original VE Day celebrations. Whether they are having a hot school meal or a packed lunch, everyone will have fun together.
Traditional Games
To conclude our celebrations, there will be a variety of traditional games for the children to enjoy. These games will help them experience the fun and joy of community gatherings, reminiscent of the street parties held on VE Day.
We look forward to a day filled with learning, reflection and celebration. Thank you for your support in making this event memorable for the children. If you have any questions or would like to help with the preparations, please get in touch.
We hope this day will not only be educational but also a joyful experience for the children. Let’s celebrate peace and unity together!
