Hello everyone,
Welcome to this week’s update from Southill Primary! There’s always so much happening at school, and I want to keep you all in the loop about our busy and exciting days.
Transfer Afternoon
On Tuesday afternoon, children spent time getting to know their new teachers and classrooms. We hope this helped everyone feel happy, confident and prepared for September.
Welcome to Our New Admin Assistant
We’re delighted to welcome Shelley, our new Admin Assistant. She’s been working alongside Mrs Howe and Mrs Sharpe to ensure a smooth start in September. As you know, the school office is a hive of activity, especially at the start of the year, so Shelley’s support will be invaluable.
New Parent Governors
This week, we welcomed our two new parent governors, Hannah and Lisa, who joined their first Full Governing Board meeting on Wednesday evening. We’re excited to work with you both!
Residential and Sports Events
Tom hosted a parent information session about the upcoming residential trip to St Briavels. He also enabled children to take part in both Dance and American Sports Festivals—thank you, Tom, for providing these fantastic opportunities.
FOSS Summer Fest
Today is the day of our FOSS Summer Fest. This is our main fundraising event of the year and takes months of preparation. I’m extremely grateful to FOSS for their hard work and commitment. Thank you to everyone for coming along to support the event—I’m sure it will be fantastic!
Looking Ahead to Next Week
Next week promises to be another busy one:
Work Experience Students: We’re welcoming students from local secondary schools who will be joining us for work experience.
Dorset Council Visitor: We’re looking forward to a visit from an important guest from Dorset Council, who will be observing our stormbreak programme. It’s wonderful to be recognised for our exceptional practice in this area.
Reception Starters: Our second group of children starting Reception in September will be visiting us with their families.
Year 6 Updates: We’ll find out how our Year 6 children performed in their SATs, and they’ll head out to Primary College for three days, exploring a variety of exciting careers workshops, such as Cabin Crew, Police, Childcare, Hairdressing, Bricklaying and more!
Hot Weather Reminder
The forecast is for hot weather again next week, so children are welcome to wear their PE kits if they’ll be more comfortable. Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and sun hat, and that sun cream is applied before school each morning.
That’s all from me this week—thank you for reading! I wish you all a happy and relaxing weekend.
