Weekly update from Caroline

Hello everyone,

Welcome to this week’s update from Southill Primary! Each week, I use this space to celebrate our children’s achievements and keep you up to date with what’s happening in school.

This Week’s Highlights

  • Amazing Readers’ Trip
On Monday, we celebrated our brilliant readers with a trip to Ringos. Next year, I’m excited to recognise our fantastic ‘2%ers’ across all areas, not just reading. We hope that every child will have the chance to experience this trip during their time at Southill Primary, as they’re chosen for being a ‘2%er’—those children who go above and beyond in any aspect of school life.
  • Year 5’s Welsh Adventure – Year 5 have spent most of the week on their incredible adventure on the Welsh border. I’ve loved seeing the photos on Tom’s blogs and can’t wait to hear all their stories when they return!
  • Year 6 Bikeability – Year 6 have done brilliantly in their Bikeability sessions this week—Paul would be really proud of you all, and so am I!
  • Attendance Success – A huge well done to all children with excellent attendance this year. Our overall attendance rate is 95.3%, which is above both the national and Dorset averages.
    Why does attendance matter?
Being in school every day and on time really does make a difference. Children who attend regularly are more likely to achieve well, build strong friendships, and make the most of every learning opportunity. Thank you to everyone who works hard to ensure their child is in school each day—it makes a huge difference.
  • End of Year Reports
I’ve been reading all the children’s end of year reports, which will be coming home today via email. I’m so proud of what our children have achieved this year—their effort, resilience, and enthusiasm have shone through. The teachers have worked hard to reflect every child’s year in their report, and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as we’ve enjoyed writing them.

Looking Ahead to Next Week
Monday: Special assembly to thank our wonderful volunteers and say goodbye to some staff.
Tuesday: Year 6 leavers’ assembly.
Wednesday: Last day of term and non-uniform day.

Back to School: Thursday 4th September.

Hot Weather Reminder ☀️
With more hot weather forecast next week, please help us keep everyone safe and comfortable by:

  • Allowing children to wear PE kits if they’ll be cooler.
  • Sending your child with a named water bottle and sun hat each day.
  • Applying sun cream before school each morning.
  • Rest assured, we’ll encourage regular water breaks and seek shade during outdoor activities.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Have a happy and relaxing weekend!

Best wishes,
Caroline
