My First Proper Class, My First Big Goodbye

Today was my last day teaching Year 4… and what a day it was.

One of my favourite moments was when a child turned up with my name proudly stuck to their T-shirt — absolutely brilliant!

We started the morning with a classic game of Bingo — the excitement, the shouting, the mini celebrations every time someone got a number…it was loud! Then we joined up with the lovely Year 1s for a collaborative drawing session, where they created some crazy masterpieces, such as deadly dragons and aquariums filled with all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures! The Year 1 children then read stories to the Year 4s, and the Year 4s looked after them so well, it was so sweet!!

The afternoon took a much sweatier turn… cue Just Dance. We cleared the space and danced our hearts out — lots of questionable moves, lots of laughter, and definitely a lot of red faces. It was honestly brilliant! APT and California Girls were definitely a crowd favourite.

To wrap it all up, we headed outside for one final activity with Year 1 — drawing around each other in chalk on the playground. The ground was soon covered in colourful outlines and doodles, and the giggles didn’t stop. At one point, it looked a bit like the world’s most cheerful crime scene!

And then, the tears came (Mine too!). This class has meant the world to me. I’ve loved teaching Year 4 more than I can put into words, and I feel so lucky that I got to complete my teacher training with such a kind, funny, thoughtful bunch of kids. They’ve taught me just as much as I’ve taught them — about patience, resilience, humour, and heart.

To everyone who gave me gifts and cards — thank you so much. Your generosity and kind words have meant so much to me, and I’m taking all of it with me into the next chapter. Reading through the kind messages last night had me in tears all over again — they were full of warmth, kindness, and just the right amount of cat references to make me smile through the tears (all the kids know how much I love cats!!).

So here’s to Year 4: thank you for the memories, the belly laughs, the wild questions, and the hugs at the end of the day. I am so proud of you all and I know you will smash Year 5! I will miss teaching you but I will see you around.

💛
