Home Learning

18th May

Marvellous Monday – Welcome to another fun week of learning together.

This week, on our animal adventures, we will be thinking about pets. Our story of the week is one of our favourite stories to share at school so I hope you enjoy it at home as well (scroll further down to find our story of the week).

Picture of the day: A great picture to chat about this morning. It is called ‘Magic Biscuits’. Can you talk about why the biscuits might be magic? What has happened to the dogs? What is the man doing? Can you write a sentence about the picture?

Sentence starter ideasThe dogs……….. The man……..   They are………..    I think…………………

Phonics: Letters and sounds lessons – today we are watching episode number 11.

Phase 4 Challenge: We continue to sound out words with letter blends at the beginning so here are some more for you to try at home. Here is an example to remind you how to use the phoneme frame. The letter blend is the cr.

Reading: This week, each day, I will set a reading challenge for you. For this you could use your school reading books or any books you have at home. Choose one of these challenges today.

Can you read a book to your pet (or a toy if you do not have a pet)?

Can you read a notice or sign near your house?

Maths: White Rose Maths has activities planned around Superworm by Julia Donaldson. Imagine having a worm as a pet! Here is the link – start with Day 1. Remember, if you are not able to complete all of the suggested activities, just watch the video then choose one of the activities to complete.

Picture Starter: Try this picture starter – draw one of these things on the paper then let you child draw the rest! You could try: some eyes, a food bowl for a pet, a dog lead or an animal bed. See what ideas they come up with.

Animal Architect: Can you build a home for a toy pet/animal – use a toy pet from home or draw one if you do not have one. Here are some pictures to give you some ideas. The first has some ideas about building a home and things to think about. The second is an idea of some resources you could collect for your child to have a go at constructing straight away. You could use any construction toys you have, or boxes from cereals etc. You could even try this outside using natural materials.

Singing: Here are some animal-themed songs to join in with today.
