perhaps

Parents: all words are selected from the age-appropriate National Curriculum lists, these are words your child has to know by the end of Year 4.  Children are being taught strategies for learning spellings as part of their work at school. Use all the strategies to help learn how to spell a word that we have learnt. 1. Look Cover Write Check 2. Bubble writing 3. Draw the shape of the word. 4. The pyramid’. Ask your child to show you how these work. Please encourage them to practice at home during the week, and carry out an occasional test to prepare them for Friday morning.

EXTRA CHALLENGE: this week I reminded the children of the rules to make a noun that ends in ‘y’ into the plural.

  1. If it ends in ‘y’ and the ‘y’ follows a consonant – eg cherry – then replace the ‘y’ with an ‘i’ and add es … so the plural of cherry is cherries.
  2. If it ends in ‘y’ and the ‘y’ follows a vowel- eg boy- then just add an ‘s’ … so boy becomes boys.

TASK: write a list of nouns in the singular that end in ‘y’ and their plural. Bring your list to school for me to see.

This week’s times tables to learn are:

5 x

We will test the children up to 12 times 5.

On Friday after school, please ask your child their score.
