Outdoor Classroom Day

Welcome to a day of ideas for learning outside. Have a look through the ideas then choose the activities you would like to try.

Visit Wildlife Kate for some Alfresco challenges: https://www.wildlifekate-alfrescowild.co.uk/wild-challenges

This is my favourite one – have a fun photo shoot in your garden:     https://www.wildlifekate-alfrescowild.co.uk/junglegarden

Why not try this activity – making a nature treasure chest. You could write a list of everything you put in your treasure chest.

You could have a soft toy picnic in the garden today – maybe eat your lunch outside with them, then read them a story.

Make an animal or forest out of Lego
Hopefully you might have Lego, wooden blocks or other building toys at home. So try a challenge to make something inspired by nature. You could all work together to make one big scene, like a springtime woodland or a giant tree. Or you could have a contest to see who can build the best minibeast, mammal or bird. Take the lego outside for this today.

Outdoor Play: You can take some of your toys outside today so that you can create adventures and stories outside. Examples could include cars, animals, dolls house and construction toys.

Getting Messy: If you don’t mind getting messy, you could have water play outside (selection of containers and a large tray/bowl of water) or even mud and water to play with!

Pretend to be nature pirates
How much hidden loot can you fit in your miniature treasure chest? Search for tiny natural items in your garden and see who can fit the most inside a matchbox or other small container. Look out for mini discarded snail shells, tiny twigs, small shiny pebbles and little petals and leaves. Set a time limit and see who will be the winner!

You might like to wear a nature crown today – watch this video for ideas. (If you do not have double-sided tape, just use sellotape or glue).

I hope you enjoy your outdoor classroom day today – I can’t wait to find out which activities you take part in.
