Maths – converting measurements

Today we are moving away from Maths No Problem for the day to consolidate our skills and knowledge of converting measurements.

I have attached some reasoning problems for you to solve in your journals. You do not need to write out the whole problem, just the calculations you use to solve the problem and your answer.

Remember our RUCSAC Year 5:

Read the problem

Underline the key facts (or just note them in his case!)

Calculate how you will work out the answer

Solve the calculation

Answer the question

Check your answer

Writing:

Yesterday, we started writing our own Finding Tales and today I would like you to complete them and edit them.  Go through and check each word, each sentence and each paragraph for correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Could you improve any vocabulary choices?  Could you add any conncectives or adverbials for detail?

When you have finished, you could publish it in neat.  Or you could present it!  Read it out loud to a member of your family, I’m sure they’d love to hear it and as a writer, it is a great thing to do because you can hear how well your story flows!

Remember to send them on to me as well, I am really missing all your lovely writing so it would be great to see how you have got on this week!

Topic: History

This week we are comparing our home town in the past to today.

I have attached here some old maps of Weymouth from different eras.  First, I’d like you to have a look and discuss them with your adults at home and see if you can work out the era/century they were printed.

Old Weymouth Map 1

Old Weymouth Map 2

Old Weymouth Map 3

Then use this link Weymouth OS Map Online to have a look at modern day Weymouth – you can zoom in and out to see more detail. Look closely and make comparisons between the old and modern maps.

What are the two main regions of our town called?

What can you see on the old maps which is still here today?  Has the land use changed?  Has the land shape changed?  Do you recognise any names? Are any buildings on the old maps also shown on the new map?

Write your comparisons in a table or as sentences in your journals and send them on to me.  It would be great if you could spot something new for me to look at as well!
