Daily Tasks – Thursday 2nd April

Good morning everybody!

Please note I am in school today and will not be able to answer your emails until later in the day.

Here are your tasks for today:

Maths

Mental Maths: 10/100/100 more or less?

Follow the link to one of our favourite games:

https://wordwall.net/resource/1150149

Decide on a rule before spinning the wheel – either: 10 more, 100 more, 1000 more, 10 less, 100 less or 1000 less – spin the wheel and call out the answer to that rule using the number landed on.  You can eliminate a number once you have used it.  You can also restart by clicking on the menu icon – the 3 lines in the bottom left hand corner.

Maths No Problem: Textbook 5B Chapter 9 Geometry

Lesson 10: Solving problems involving angles in rectangles.

In Focus: You will need a rectangular piece of paper.  What do the angles add up to? How can we work this out? Can you solve the problem and calculate the size of the angle?  Can you show your working out using a bar model? What would that look like?

In Focus: Follow Let’s Learn section to explore how to calculate the missing angle.

Guided Practice: During Guided Practice, children are looking at folded shapes and using their knowledge of angles on a straight line and right angles to find smaller angles within. They must take 38º away from 90º twice to find angle ‘b’.

Workbook: Complete Worksheet 10, pages 65 – 66.

English

Reading: Your child should try to read for at least 20 minutes every day.

Remember to log on to Accelerated Reader and complete quizzes for all the books you have read!

If you have a Lexia account, try to log on and complete at least 15 minutes a day.

Writing Task:

Following your learning of modal verbs yesterday, today I would like you to write a persuasive speech of your choice using as many modal verbs as you can.

This could be:

  • a speech giving guidelines on how to stay safe during the current corona virus outbreak
  • rules on how to be successful at school
  • guidelines on how to live a fit and healthy life
  • You could imagine you were the President of the world and set your own rules or guidelines!
  • Or you could give a speech on guidelines or rules of your choice

I would be looking to see you using modal verbs such as: must/should/could/would/might/will/can/may/shall in as many sentences as you can.  I would also be looking to see you using great adverbials and connectives to link your ideas and guidelines.

It would be great to see your finished speeches as I am missing seeing all your lovely writing Year 5 and am so inspired by what you are achieving at home!  Well done and keep going 🙂
