Home Learning

Friday 21st Jan 2022

This weeks home learning is a little bit different as most of us have been of this week due to Covid19.

Reading

Over the weekend please read with your child each day. This is particularity important this week as children have not read 3 times in school as they usually do.

We will be back into our usual reading routine next week.  Therefore, their ‘learning to read’ book will need to be returned on Tuesday ready for their new book to come home on Wednesday.

Library books will also be changed next week as usual.

Maths

This week we have been looking at shapes.

You can support your child at home by looking for and talking about shapes in your environment.

Children will have looked at 2d shapes before  – triangle, rectangle, square and circle. Talking about them using the vocabulary of ‘sides’ and ‘corners’.  We have recapped these this week, but talking about these shapes again at home would also be helpful.

This week we have learnt about 3d shapes. Naming them – cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere, cone, pyramids- and starting to explore the language of faces and vertices.  Please support your child by following this up at home. You could look for 3d shapes around your house, perhaps you have a tissue box – is it a cube or cuboid? Maybe you have a football or some marbles- these are spheres.

Linking objects to their shape name will really help to support the new vocabulary learnt this week.

Thanks for your continued support
