Reading / Spellings

Today your child has bough home some tricky words that they should be able to read by sight. These are words that we have learnt and practiced in school. Please use the flashcards at home to support sight reading these words. We will be assessing the reading of tricky words at the end of the half term as part of our phonics assessment.

Maths

This week we have been looking in more detail at counting in 2’s 5’s and 10’s and how this can help us when looking at different questions. This leads into our learning about multiplication as repeated addition and multiplication as equal groups which we will continue with next week.

Being about to count forwards and backwards in 2’s 5’s and 10’s is a Year 1 maths objective and children should be able to complete missing number tracks by following and spotting the known pattern.

For example, what is missing .. 2, 4, __ , 8, 10 ___  or   0, 5 __, 15 __  ___  30, 35….

You child has bought home 3 number tracks to support counting in 2’s 5’s and 10’s. one for each. Please support at home by courting backwards and forwards using these, asking your child questions such as, If I  was courting in 5’s which number would I say after 20? etc. This should become more automatic as your child becomes more confident.
