Spellings and Number Bonds

Spellings

This week, I would like both groups to focus on the same spellings. Please see the list of words below that contain the digraph ‘ch’ but when you say the word it is pronounced as ‘k’.

Once you have learned all of your spellings, please practise putting each word into a sentence.

They will be tested on Friday 22nd March.

Reading

If you have a Lexia Login please try to do some at home – we are all trying to meet our weekly targets. It doesn’t matter if you have already met yours; the more you do, the better you get – and it would be fantastic to see year 3 on the Lexia Leaderboard in Mrs Wood’s 2%er assembly on Thursday!

If you finish your reading book you can complete the quiz at home. Don’t forget you can quiz on your library book or home books too. (Not all books have quizzes but it’s worth typing in the title to check). Remember to take your time and think about the correct answer as you can only quiz once per book.

Maths

For this his half term, your maths home learning will be all about quick recall of number bonds (adding 2 single digits) from 11 – 20 (and their related subtraction facts).

This week, I would like you to practise the number bonds of 14 and their subtraction facts.

Quick recall of these number bonds helps children develop fluency in their maths. The aim is for your child to instantly give the answer when faced with an addition like 8 + 4. We want your child to be able to answer 12 instantly, rather than have to ‘work it out’ e.g. 9,  10,  11, 12. Likewise, when they are faced with 12 – 4, the aim is to instantly answer 8.

A great way to help your child with sharpening up their number bond recall is to play games. For example this week the focus is on number bonds of 14. Make some cards, each with a digit on: …..  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  10. Lay the cards face down on the table then turn 2 cards over. If they are a number bond of 12, keep the cards. If not, turn them both face down again. Don’t forget to practise the subtraction facts too.

They will be tested on Friday 22nd March.
