Phonics

Today we are going to watch the online Phonics again.

I would recommend watching the ‘Year 1’ session at 10.30. It has a recap of phase 3 sounds at the beginning before moving onto teaching the phase 5 sounds, so there is no need to watch The Receptions video as well unless you would like to. All of these sounds your child has been taught already at school so they should be familiar. We would be recapping all sounds during the summer term and would continue looking at ‘tricky words’ which are also covered in these videos which is great!

The link is below again ….   if you are not able to watch the video at 10.30 you can watch it at another time. After it has been ‘live’ it is then on the ‘Letters and sounds’ youtube channel which can be accessed at any time of the day – Yay!

English – Sidney Spider

Follow the same structure that we have been using …

Start off retelling the story -You will probably notice that your child is becoming really familiar and confident now.

Next go to page 12. We are looking at prepositions, and different places that Sidney could hide. I would read the sentence starters out, but encourage your child to write the whole sentence. Rather than just adding a few extra words at the end. This way they can really focus again on those capital letters, full stops and finger spaces!

Y1-Unit Talk For Writing

Maths No Problem – division

Mind Workout – on page 55 in the textbook. Try this type of activity using objects that you have at home. Plates and pasta pieces work well, or pieces of paper and Lego blocks.

Next – try the activity on page 56. You could draw and cut out the things that are needed on each card together before stating the activity. Encourage your child to work through ideas of  what each card could look like before finalising and sticking down. I would love to see some more maths photos this week!
