Weekly spellings and times tables

Weekly spellings and times tables

Reading – Please encourage your child to read over the weekend. It’s also great for children to have the opportunity to read with an adult. Please write in their Reading Record Books and ensure these come back on Monday. If children need to complete a book quiz at home, then simply follow the link- https://ukhosted74.renlearn.co.uk/2236795/default.aspx

TT Rockstars – We really want the children to develop their times tables this academic year. We have set up an account on TT Rockstars for the children and their username is stuck in the back of their Reading Records. To access the website, follow this link – Times Tables Rock Stars: Play (ttrockstars.com) By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12 and TT Rockstars is a fantastic way to help your child achieve this.

Column Addition and Subtraction- It would also be great if children could practice column addition and subtraction (up to 4-digit numbers). We have practiced in class and noticed that a few children find this quite challenging. Feel free to use the questions underneath to help you. Anybody who completes these over half term and brings them into school shall receive raffle tickets.

For those of you that also have Lexia accounts, why not login at home? Who knows, maybe you’ll make it onto our leaderboard in the 2%er assembly on Thursdays! – Lexia Core5 Reading – Login and Student Program

Spellings

The spellings for next week are:

enough
exercise
experience
experiment
extreme

They will be tested after half term on Friday 4th November.

Parents: all words are selected from the age-appropriate National Curriculum list of statutory words. These are words your child has to know by the end of Year 4 (they should be familiar with these as they also began learning them in Year 3). Please encourage your child to practice at home during the week and carry out an occasional test to prepare them for Friday morning.

Times Tables

We would like the children to have a go at learning the…

8x table

The children will have questions on the eight times table that go all the way up to 8 x 12. Try to encourage your child to learn as many 8x table questions as possible without needing to start back at the beginning, for example knowing that 8 x 9 is 72 rather than have to count in 8’s up to the answer. On TT Rockstars, children can go on ‘Jamming’ mode and just practise the 8x table. It’s a great and entertaining way of learning times tables.

On Friday after school, please ask your child to see their scores. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
