A Cracking Concert!

A Cracking Concert!

After 10 weeks of learning ukelele on a Friday afternoon, it was time to put our skills to the test! To give Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 a little break from preparing for their nativity play to parents, we decided to treat them to a little ukelele concert.

Over the course of the past 10 weeks, Year 4 have been learning the chords to ‘Five Years Time’ by Noah and the Whale. I must say, considering we had a number of children off school feeling poorly, the children remaining absolutely SMASHED it! I was also extremely impressed with the children who felt so inspired by Mr. McGregor (the music teacher from the Dorset Music Service) that they even learnt other songs such as: Jingle Bells, Happy Birthday, the Harry Potter theme tune and Blinding Lights by The Weeknd.

It’s worth noting that the ukelele (in fact most stringed instruments) are incredibly difficult to master. It takes patience, time and resilience. Something that a lot of the Year 4 children have demonstrated in abundance.

Don’t panic however…To ensure that the Southill community do not miss out on our ukelele playing, we have put a little video together showcasing all of their efforts for your entertainment.

A huge thank you to the Dorset Music Service for providing the children at Southill with the instruments. I am sure a lot of children have added a ukelele to their Christmas list! Thank you to Key Stage One for being a fantastic audience last Friday. Finally, I would like to thank Mr. McGregor for teaching us over the past 10 weeks. You have been very patient and have inspired a lot of children to learn how to play a musical instrument.
