A little trip to see Tutankhamun!

Today was a very exciting day in Year 5 as we went on our first trip for over a year! We were full of beans on the coach up to Dorchester and then walked excitedly down to the Tutankhamun Museum.

In the museum, we had the opportunity to study some replicas of a variety of mummies from all different backgrounds and eras.  One was over 5200 years old!  There was a mummified pharaoh, bull and even a crocodile!

We had a brilliant talk from the museum specialist who told us about Tutankhamun’s parents, family and life.  We then saw the replica of his mummy, it was so great to see it up close!

Walking through the ante chamber was amazing as it really gave us the impression of how Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon felt, looking through the little peephole into the tomb and possibly the most important and signifcant historical discovery ever, in 1923.  The burial chamber and exhibition of artefacts was amazing as we could really get a feel for how exuberant and illustrious Tutankhamun’s life was.

After our educational visit, we headed up to Borough gardens and enjoyed a great lunchtime trip to the park for a play, some natural scarab beetle art, games and a well deserved ice cream!

Well done Year 5 on such a fantastic day out.  The museum staff said you were wonderful and were thrilled with your knowledge.  You were polite to everyone you came across and have represented Southill to the highest standards today, all while having a marvellously fun day!
