Amazing Authors!

This week in Year 1 we have all been amazing authors!!

As you will know, since the beginning of the half term we have been learning a story called ‘The Magic Porridge Pot’. As part of our learning process we have been…

  • rehearsing and performing our class story
  • acting it out
  • boxing it up into sections -opening, build up, problem, resolution and ending

and once we were confident enough, making changes to it on our own story maps!

This is all part of the Talk for Writing approach that we use here at Southill. Where children are given lots of opportunities to rehearse texts and stories over and over to ensure that they are confident story tellers before starting to write super stories of their own.

Over the past few weeks we have seen the magic porridge pot transform into..

The Magic Popcorn Pot

The Magic Candyfloss Pot

The Magic Carrot Pot

The Magic Jelly Pot …. and many many more brilliant ideas!

Both myself and Mrs Jones have been blown away by the attitudes of the children this week when writing up their new stories. We have seen children being resourceful, reflective and resilient whilst writing their stories completely independently.  Of course, we were on hand to support children who needed that little extra confidence boost or got a little bit muddled with where they were at in their stories. But the writing really is completely independently.

I know what your thinking…  but below you can see it with your own eyes!!

Well done Year 1 – YOU ARE AMAZING!
