An afternoon with AFC Bournemouth

An afternoon with AFC Bournemouth

This afternoon, we were very lucky to welcome representatives from the Premier League team ‘AFC Bournemouth’ into our school. They began by conducting a whole school assembly, highlighting the importance of a healthy lifestyle. They told us that it’s important to:

-Eat a balanced diet

-Stay hydrated

-Get plenty of sleep

-Exercise for at least an hour a day.

AFC Bournemouth talked us about the diet of their premier league players and discussed how staying in a routine can really help with your physical and mental health. They highlighted the dedication it takes to be a professional athlete and looking after your mind and body are at the very forefront.

Year 4 were very fortunate as they then had two more workshop in the afternoon. To begin with, the two coaches (Matthew and Nathan) talked about the importance of education, especially reading. We looked at a match report from the Bournemouth vs Nottingham Forest match earlier this year and the children had to ‘skim and scan’ in order to answer questions quickly.

We then went up to the top field in order to play football. The children participated in small matches and also did some skills and drills that involved dribbling and using different parts of the foot to control the ball. It was amazing seeing some children, who had never even played football before, really getting stuck in and trying their best.

A huge thank you to the two coaches from AFC Bournemouth for a lovely afternoon filled with important messages to take away. We had a great time.
