An Anthology from Year 5.

For the last few weeks, we have been studying, innovating and creating a range of poetry in Year 5.

Ranging from the narrative poem The Jabberwocky, to the list poem The Last 6 Rivers, to the creative poem The Magic Box, we have looked at vocabulary, rhythm, stanzas, language, effect, pattern and impact on the reader.  We have even learnt a new way of creating words – ask us what a portmanteau is!

Here is a selection of some of our creations.  Have a look and see how well we have used similes, metaphors, personification, rhythm and vocabulary to impact on our readers.

Which is your favourite?!

Have a watch of our performances of Rhythm of Life by Michael Rosen.  This really helped us to understand the iambic pentameter and ‘bounce’ of a poem.  Did it make you smile as well as us?!
