Buzzing About Bees in Year 3!

This half term in Year 3, we’ve been learning all about one of nature’s busiest and most important creatures – bees! Did you know that bees help grow many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers we love by pollinating them? Without bees, our world would look very different – and not nearly as colourful or tasty!

We discovered that bees:

Collect nectar and pollen from flowers.
Help plants grow, breed, and produce food through a process called pollination.
Can be solitary or live in hives and work together as a team, with each bee having a special job.
Make honey, which they use as food – and which we enjoy too!
We were amazed to learn that one third of the food we eat depends on pollinators like bees. They help grow apples, strawberries, cucumbers, and even chocolate!

The photos show the garden designs the children created.  They are a bee paradise!  The children included safe and healthy places for bees to live, lots of wild and colourful flowers and also shallow drinking places as bees need to quench their thirst on busy, hot days!
