Forest School session 11. Going out with a bang!

Where have the weeks gone?  They have flashed by in a puff of fire pit smoke.  But my, what fun we have had and we certainly finished our last session today with a bang!

We started our session in our ‘Magic Spot’.  The children used their senses really well and noticed all the differences that spring has changed to their special place.  They are now so tuned in to this and found it so much easier to do.  We then had another game of Stealth and then embarked on a treasure hunt to find all the ‘eggs’ (painted stones) to then try and crack the hidden message which was ‘Easter Fun’.  Even the rain didn’t dampen our spirits or put the fire out….. thankfully!

Free time was a mixture of den building, hammock time, carry on their own game of Stealth and food prepping, followed by cooking.

We certainly saved our best culinary skills to the last.  We foraged wild garlic, made flatbread from scratch (in a ziplock bag) and even managed to pop some corn over the fire and cover it in cinnamon and brown sugar.

Everyone tried the flatbreads and pop corn and it was an outstanding ‘Yummy!’ to both of the dishes.

This group has been wonderful.  They have come on leaps and bounds over the weeks and we are all sad for our sessions to be finishing.  Week on week, we have seen individuals –

*stand a little taller as their self esteem and confidence has increased as they realise they can do things successfully and achieve.

*communicate effectively with everyone – adults and children alike

*collaborate to achieve common goals and tasks

*successfully shown flexibility and adjustment to difficult or challenging experiences; growing in resilience and determination

*become comfortable and happy in nature, including ANY weather and in one another’s company.

* develop their creativity

* become really independent

The children wanted a photo to remember the group but also make some bunting that will be kept on Tiger Shed for them to pop back to and see.

These Forest Schoolers have been so much fun.  Thank you for the great sessions and ideas!
