Fun in the Sun

What a great first week back in year 2!  It’s been so lovely to see you all again and we are really excited for the summer term – hopefully the warmer weather will allow us lots of opportunities for learning outside.

We started the week with a look in our story sack where we found lots of monkeys and lots of hats!  I wonder what our new story is all about?

The children have made a great start learning our new text ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’.  The text map has gone home so please keep practising this at home.  The better the children know the story the better they will be able to write it and innovate it.

In maths we have started learning about fractions, looking at halves and quarters.  There is quite a lot of tricky language to learn and understand: whole, equal parts, half, quarter.  It would be great if the children could practise this in real life situations at home, such as sharing things amongst family members.  Has everyone got a fair share?  Are the halves/quarters exactly the same size?

We started our new topic ‘The Scented Garden’ with a lovely walk around the local area looking for flowers, human and physical features and keeping our environment tidy by doing some litter picking.

Home learning starts again today – please check the home learning page for spellings and mental maths.

Have a great weekend everyone – perhaps you go out for a nature walk and look for flowers in the lovely spring sunshine.
