Going ‘Cray’ with Clay!
What better way to spend an afternoon before heading off on our exciting residential to St Briavels than by getting our hands dirty — in the name of art, of course!
Year 5 wrapped up their brilliant Design & Technology sculpture project with a clay-tastic session, guided by the fabulous Mrs. Murray. Inspired by the delicate floral creations of artist Vanessa Hogge, the children explored the slip and score technique to bring their own blossoming masterpieces to life.
First, the clay had to be conditioned — not at the spa, but by hand! A bit of warming, stretching, rolling, and compressing got it soft and sculpt-ready. Then, with just a splash of water and a whole lot of focus, the children set about carefully crafting petals and leaves — each one unique, just like nature intended.
The results? Intricate, beautiful and absolutely bursting with creativity!
A huge thank you goes to our in-house sculpture superstar (no offence, Vanessa Hogge!) — the wonderful Mrs. Murray — for making the session such a fun and inspiring experience. Year 5, you absolutely nailed it… or should we say clayed it? Sorry, terrible dad joke!
