Learning outside of the classroom!

This week in year 1 we have been doing lots of learning outside of the classroom!!

In Maths we have been learning about measurement. In Year 1 we focus on measuring using ‘non-standard’ units. We have talked a lot about how it is important to measure using the same objects, and how being accurate with our starting and finishing points is important. We have been putting our new found measuring skills into practice outside on the playground. We started off measuring different parts of the Trim Trail for Mr Frampton using our hands and feet, We then worked out how long the netball court is for Mr Prior!! It was great to see everyone engaged in their learning and working so sensibly with their partners.

We have also been learning how to play some old games as part of our Memory Box topic and had a special visitor in our class. Everyone had a great time, it was lovely to see all of the children enjoying each other’s company and helping to teach one another. Do you know any old games? Perhaps you could play them at home this weekend and then come into school and show a friend how to play too?

Well done Year 1.

Have a great weekend!
