Line and shade in Year 5.

This week in Year 5, our Art project has moved onto exploring different ways to use line and pen ink to create shading and form in our drawing. Who knew there are so many different techniques to shading?!

Have a look at the different ways we have created form and shadow in our pictures.

We have used:

  • cross-hatch
  • contour lines
  • stippling
  • scribbling
  • smudging

Combining our skills of line drawing and shading to create form, we then used pen ink to ‘wash’ the shadows and form into our drawings. Using Rembrandt as inspiration, we have practiced using pen ink in our sketch books.

Have a look and see what truly fantastic artists we are, some of these shapes are so well shaded, they are leaping from the page!
