Making Waves with the RNLI!
This afternoon, KS2 were treated to an exciting and educational visit from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The whole key stage gathered in the hall for an engaging workshop all about staying safe near and in the water.
The RNLI team spoke to the children about the incredible work they do, from saving lives at sea to helping people stay safe on the coast. The session was packed with vital information, but it was delivered in a fun and memorable way that really captured the children’s attention.
Our pupils learned how to float like a starfish—a simple yet powerful technique that can save lives. They also discovered the meanings behind different beach flags, so they know when it’s safe to swim and when it’s not. The importance of Stop and Think, Signal for Help, and how to handle rip currents were key messages throughout the session.
A highlight for many was seeing some of the children dress up as lifeguards! This helped everyone understand what lifeguards look like and how to spot them quickly if they’re ever in trouble at the beach.
The RNLI also taught us about the emergency numbers to call if we or someone else is in danger near water: dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, or use 112.
We’re incredibly grateful to the RNLI for taking the time to visit our school and share such important life-saving information in a way that was fun, interactive and accessible. Thank you for helping our children stay safe and confident around water!
