Nature’s Treasure

This week in Year 1 we have started our Topic ‘Splendid Skies’.

To start our new topic off we have been outside looking for ‘natures treasures’ – these are all different things that we can find outside that are not man made. For example; feathers, leaves, flowers and berries.

Once we had collected our treasures we bought them back to the classroom to identify and compare. We talked about how certain treasures can be found at certain times of the year, such as leaves that have started to turn brown and that have fallen off of the trees. We then linked these ideas with our knowledge of the four seasons.

Later in the week we looked the four seasons in more detail, thinking about certain weather patterns in England and the sorts of clothes that we might need to wear at each time of the year. The children designed a suitcase for each season making sure they had included the most important things such as hats and scarves for the cold winter days and sun hats and sun glasses for the hot summer months!

Another great week in Year 1 – well done everyone.

  1. Ostin has loved his start to year one. Everyday he has come home chatting about what he has done in class, he is really enjoying himself. Thank you.
