Netball County Finals

Our netball team took part in the Dorset County Under 11’s Final today in Bournemouth.

We took a squad of 7 who did an AMAZING job! This is the first time Southill have made a county final in many years, so we went with a positive attitude and committed to giving it our best, while being prepared for some matches to be tough due to the extremely high standards.

The conditions were HOT, HOT, HOT! Our first match was against Christchurch Juniors who played a very strong game. We held our own and fought for every ball. We didn’t get the win but came away with our heads held high!

Match 2 saw us up against Pimperne Primary. Southill made a cracking start to this game and we were leading 2-0 at half time. Pimperne made a comeback in the second half, but we didn’t let it phase us and we took the win! Amazing!

Matches 3 and 4 were against Baden Powell Primary School and St Ives. Both were close games and saw some fantastic play from all our players. The scores were close, but we just missed out on the wins, finishing fourth in our group.
By now, it was the middle of the day and incredibly hot. The children showed such amazing resilience to keep going! The adults were flagging just watching, so I can’t imagine how they felt!

After a quick lunch and time to cool off a bit, we gathered ourselves together and got ready for the final three matches of the day. The children’s attitude was amazing – everyone was up for the challenge, despite the heat! We played Bishop Aldhelms, Longfleet and Ocean Academy, losing the first match and then winning the final two!

I am so proud of the determination the team showed along with amazing support and encouragement towards each other. What a great experience for our netballers.

They really did do Southill Proud today. Well done all!
Also, special mention for the parents to came to watch – it was hugely appreciated!!
