Netball Matches v. Atlantic Academy.

Another day at Southill, another sports event against Atlantic Academy, today it was the Netball Club’s turn! We were thrilled to have the opportunity to set up games for both our experienced players and our newer, less experienced players today with two games playing simultaneously.

Our Team A faced a tough opposition team and struggled to warm up to the game in the first quarter. After gearing up and showing some definitive passing more akin to our level of play, Lexi scored a great goal!

The second quarter was opened with a blinder of a goal from Jess who then went on to score 2 more goals, although we conceded another 4.

As the game progressed, our defence improved and we began to make some great intercepts and passes to maintain possession. Unfortunately, some zealous defending from the opposition caused us difficulties at the goal and the game ended with the score;

Atlantic Academy 11 – 4 Southill

I would like to say how proud I am of the whole team for their resilience within this match as the defending was tricky. All the players – Ellie Belle, Florence, Jess, Lexi, Fern and Grace (for whom this was their first competitive match) Samuel and Sienna – kept their heads up, their energy levels high and played their usual phenomenal level of play, well done.

Team B also played exceptionally well and demonstrated skills which will serve them well in future games. They took straight to the match and opened well with a strong rotation, heading up a 4-0 lead by the second quarter with fantastic goals from Oliver and Coco.

The second half of the game saw some players in positions they were not as used to yet their energy levels did not drop once. Exceptional defending saw Southill keep posession with Josie and Reed scoring. This match ended:

Atlantic Academy 16 – 9 Southill

I would like to praise this team as for all of them, it was their first time playing in a competitive, match and all of them played 100% of their energy and enthusiasm. I am excited to see the progress these players – Oliver, Reed, Josie, Neive, Becci, Coco and Imogen – will make from this game today, undoubtedly leading them to victories in the future.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and friendly afternoon celebrating great sportmanship and play at Southill School. I would like to thank all parents and friends who came along to support and cheer on our players and our thanks to Atlantic for making the long journey over again! Thanks also to Mr Frampton and my many sideline photographers for capturing the amazing action shots and images below.

Southill, you should all be proud of yourselves today and take what you have learned forward, ready for a few more matches we have lined up after half term!
