Science Day!

Today was a little bit different in Year 2…. We had a science day! We spent the day learning more about habitats, animal and plant adaptations, predators and prey. We did our learning in a few different ways – researching on the chromebooks, completing tables, identifying, matching, sorting and categorising. Phew!

Firstly, we found out the names of animals and plants by identifying them on some ‘spotter’ sheets. We carefully looked at the pictures to identify the features of the animal or plant, before comparing it to a group of photos on ‘spotter’ sheets. Once we had decided on a match, we read the name and copied it onto our sheet. Now we know the names of lots of different plants and animals!

Next, we worked in pairs to research woodland animals. We watched how Miss Knight typed a question into google such as ‘what do badgers eat?’ and ‘where do deers shelter?’ We wrote our answers in sentences on a table with headings. We also decided if the animals we researched were carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores.

In the afternoon, we looked at a presentation about plant adaptations. We learned that plants have different ways to prevent predators from eating them, such as stings, thorns, spines, hair, chemicals, and spiky leaves. We categorised photos of different plants into groups based on their adaptation.

Fantastic learning and team work today Year 2!
