Small School, Mighty Athletes – Southill Storms the Track!

Small School, Mighty Athletes – Southill Storms the Track!

This morning, 16 pupils from Years 5 and 6 headed over to Radipole Primary School to compete in an exciting athletics meet against seven other primary schools from across Weymouth and Portland.

Our Southill athletes took part in a range of events including the 75m sprint, 300m, 600m, hurdles and the relay. The standard of competition was incredibly high, with the very best young athletes from the area giving it their all. Despite the tough competition, our pupils showed fantastic determination, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout the day. The atmosphere was buzzing as the children enthusiastically cheered one another on, and it was wonderful to see so many of our students out on the track, proudly representing Southill.

A special shoutout goes to Amelia and Eleanor, who not only won their heats in the hurdles but went on to win the entire hurdles competition – an amazing achievement! Florence, Ashton and Filip also stormed to victory in their sprint heats, while Max crossed the finish line first in his hurdles heat. The Year 5 boys’ (Max, Gurraag, Freddie, Filip) and girls’ relay (Florence, Bella, Maddie, Eleanor) teams both won their heats as well – what a day!

For a small but mighty school like Southill, the determination and closeness of the races were truly impressive.

A huge congratulations to our Year 5 athletics team for finishing 3rd overall, and to the Year 6 team for securing a respectable 5th place. We are so incredibly proud of each and every one of you!

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Frampton for capturing some brilliant action shots, to the parents and grandparents who came along to support, and to Michelle at Radipole for organising such a fantastic day of sport.
