Southill SMASH Chesil Poetry Performance

Southill SMASH Chesil Poetry Performance!

What a fantastic morning for Southill Primary at the Chesil Poetry Extravaganza! Buzzing with excitement, our brilliant Year 5 pupils gathered outside Weymouth Pavilion, eager and ready to take to the stage. And what an entrance they made—Southill had the honour of opening the entire event!

Over the past few weeks, the children have been rehearsing the inspirational poem Let No-One Steal Your Dreams by Paul Cookson. Not only did they learn the poem beautifully, but they also added their own original verses and even set the whole performance to a backing track. Despite a few technical hiccups on the day (the music was very quiet which made it difficult to keep in time), our young performers didn’t miss a beat. With passion, confidence, and plenty of Southill spirit, they delivered a powerful performance that truly lit up the stage. We then had the opportunity to watch Conifers and Wyke Regis perform their poems.

We hope everyone who came to support us enjoyed the show and felt as proud as we did watching our stars shine!

After the performance, the children enjoyed a lovely walk back to school under the warm spring sunshine. A huge THANK YOU goes out to all the wonderful parent helpers who joined us for the walk—we couldn’t have done it without you!

If you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry—we plan to film the performance and share it on Class Dojo and the school website hopefully later this week. Make sure you check it out!

Well done, Year 5—you absolutely smashed it!
