What a fantastic first day we’ve had on our St Ives adventure with Year 6!
After a vibey first leg of the journey we stopped at Exeter services for a snack and a run-around. Feeling refreshed, we promptly headed back to the coach; fuelled by unrelenting postivity and boundless enthusiasm, we boarded our carriage, got strapped in and… the coach wouldn’t start. So, we got back off the coach, for Exeter services part 2. Then after 10 minutes we got back on, for our vehicle had roared back to life.
Anyway. The Eden Project was absolutely fantastic! When we arrived, we had lunch at the education centre, followed by an informative lesson on climate change and the greenhouse effect. After that, we were set off on a scavenger hunt. The task was to follow a map and find information stations about how we can find solutions to climate problems. Once all the groups had found their clues, we set off around the biomes to explore the incredible climate-controlled zones. The Rainforest biome was humid and rich with fascinating flora and fauna. It had a brilliantly fun rope bridge and some refreshing waterfalls, where the children did not get themselves wet whatsoever. Honestly. Next it was the Mediterranean biome, which actually felt like you were on holiday on a Spanish island!
Back to the coach, which started first time. After a quick hour and a half we found ourselves at Cohort Hostel in the centre of St Ives, where we were greeted by the helpful, friendly staff, and the kids were sent off to their rooms. Absolutely delighted with their room allocation, the pupils unpacked their bags and we sat down to a delicious chippy tea.
A lovely walk around the harbour and surrounding paths was a perfect conclusion to an amazing first day – we are so pleased with every single one of the children today. They’ve been positive, resilient and reciprocal.
Many thanks,
Dan
