Super Science Week!

Last week and this week the children began the science unit, Light.  We have discovered what a light source is and what darkness really means.  We have looked at the term reflection and used a torch on a reflective piece of material and watched the light bounce off it and onto the ceiling and walls.  During one lesson the children were asked to work in pairs and had a posit it each.  Without the other seeing they had to write a word on it that would make the other person happy.  Then that post it was stuck underneath the table and the other person had to use a mirror only in order to read the word and were not allowed to peek! This was lots of fun!  We then moved on to use mirrors to see if the letters in our name had any lines of symmetry.

During the week the children also investigated the properties of some materials to work out if they were opaque, translucent or transparent.  There was lots of discussion and friendly debating.

We also had a very interactive whole school assembly with the author Justyn Edwards who came into talk about his three books which involve some detective work and magic!  He then stayed to sign copies for the children.
