The Life and Legacy of Sir David Attenborough

The Life and Legacy of Sir David Attenborough

Book Week continued with aplomb in Year 4 this morning as we looked at a fascinating book all about Sir David Attenborough. We soon discovered just how much of a pioneer he is for climate change and looking after the environment.

The children used handouts, Chromebooks and the video to then write a biography all about this brilliant man. The results were astronomical. The children found out about Sir David’s early life, his career, why he was knighted and what he has done in order to help protect the environment. They also had to quote something inspiring that Sir David Attenborough had said. Here are some of the quotes that the children found…

-‘The truth is: the natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water and aid. It is the most precious thing we have and we need to defend it.’

-‘What humans do over the next 50 years will determine the fate of all life on the planet.’

-‘How could I look my grandchildren in the eye and say I knew what was happening to the world and did nothing.’

-‘The question is, are we happy to suppose that our great grandchildren may never be able to see an elephant except in a picture book?’

We have had a brilliant Book Week and the children have realised just how much reading can inspire writing! Well done, Year 4!
