‘The Power You’re Supplyin’…is ELECTRIFYING!’

Our submarine adventure continued this afternoon as we began to explore the wonders of electricity. We know that natural sunlight only reaches so far down below the surface of the ocean and therefore submarines need their own supply of electricity in order to navigate, maneuver and observe sea creatures in the deep blue abyss…

We began by discussing what appliances around the house actually need electricity to operate, identified what the components in a series circuit actually do and then looked at whether or not certain circuits would work or not by looking at scientific diagams.

Then the exciting bit…children were then given the freedom to build some circuits using wires, switches, bulbs, buzzers, motors and batteries! It was great seeing children being so resourceful and resilient. When the bulb or buzzer didn’t work rather than giving up, scientists look at what they might have to change in order to be successful.

As you can see from the pictures, the children were certainly able to make the bulbs glow. Luckily, you won’t be able to hear the buzzers buzzing!
