Tints, Tones and Shades

This week, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on developing their artistic skills, especially painting and drawing.

We started the week off by looking at colour theory and discussing what the difference is between tint, tones and shades. We learnt that shade is when you mix a colour with black, tint is when you mix a colour with white and tone is when you mix a colour with grey (which creates a more realistic effect).

Everyone had a go at experimenting mixing different colours with white, grey and black, and we then moved onto colour matching, which turned out to be pretty challenging but Year 6 proved again that they have fantastic resilience as they persevered through the task!

During the second part of the week, the class used all their skills and learning from the colour theory lessons and applied these to their own piece of art. They had to draw their own landscape, thinking carefully about perspective so that it looked realistic, and then began the colour mixing process! The children all worked incredibly hard on their work, thinking carefully about the tints, tones and shades they used.

Well done Year 6 for working so hard in all our lessons this week. It has been a fantastic first week back!
