Y3/4 St George’s Football Tournament – A Fantastic Afternoon of Football!

This afternoon, our mighty Southill Y3/4 footballers took to the pitch at the St George’s Football Tournament—and what an afternoon it was!

The atmosphere was electric, with so many parents and grandparents lining the touchline to support the team. Their encouragement lifted our players, who arrived confident, focused, and raring to go. Every child had a point to prove and wore the Southill badge with pride, determined to represent the school with spirit and skill.

We got off to a slightly shaky start, falling 2–1 to St Nicholas and St Lawrence in a closely contested match (Jacob getting our goal). That early result gave us a much-needed reality check, and from that point on, the team responded superbly.

Southill bounced back in style:

Southill 2–0 St Johns (Goals: Ronnie ⚽, Jacob ⚽)

Southill 3–0 Bincombe (Goals: Jossy ⚽, Ronnie ⚽, Jacob ⚽)

Southill 7–1 St Augustines (Goals: Jacob ⚽⚽⚽, Zac ⚽⚽, Ronnie ⚽, Stanley⚽)

Southill 5–0 St George’s B (Goals: Jacob ⚽⚽, Ronnie ⚽, Finn ⚽, Bryce ⚽)

The team were absolutely flying, playing slick, confident football and defending brilliantly. Wills, Toby, Jossy, Bryce and Harry were immense at the back—calm, composed, and determined not to concede. Considering they hadn’t played together as a team before, their chemistry and teamwork were incredibly impressive.

After the group matches, the scores were in—and we had qualified for the semi-finals! Wohoo! Up next: Wyke Regis, the winners of the other group.

Southill dominated possession, creating chance after chance, but their keeper had other ideas. Against the run of play, Wyke managed to score from a long ball that caught our defense off-guard. We thought we had the equaliser when Ronnie slotted one in, but the goal was disallowed—apparently, the ball had gone out of play. A tough call. The final whistle came too soon, and the game ended 1–0 to Wyke.

Despite the narrow semi-final defeat, every child in a Southill shirt can be immensely proud. The effort, attitude, and football on display were top class, and the future of Southill football looks brighter than ever.

A special thank you to Steve and Rox for kindly giving me a lift back from Portland, and an even bigger thank you to all the amazing parents and grandparents who turned up to support the team—you made the day even more special. And of course, thank you to the players themselves. Southill FC, you were brilliant today. I’m incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

Let’s keep building on this. Onwards and upwards! 💙⚽
