13th May

Wonderful Wednesday

Picture of the day: For your writing today, think about sounding the words out carefully. The creature in the picture starts with a letter blend (sn) and has a digraph in it too (ai). It is a difficult word to sound out so just do your best. Sentences could start with The…..    I can see…….   I think….. Or you might come up with a better idea.

Phonics: Letters and sounds lesson 9

Phase 4 Challenge: Try writing these words today. They all start with the letter blend sn, just like our snail.

Reading: Read one of your books from school in your book nook today. Why not take some of your other favourite books in there too? Have you got a ‘book buddy’ cuddly toy you like to read to? Look back to Monday for some great book nook ideas. You could send me some photos of your own book nooks.

Maths: White Rose Day 3 (The Very Busy Spider)

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

For those of you who have not yet used the White Rose Maths plans, they start with a fun video giving you ideas. Then you can look at the suggested activities and choose which ones you would like to try (click on Get the Activity). Today there is maths fun using the song Incy Wincy Spider.

Other Activities

BBC Radio: Here is a fun episode from BBC Playtime, called snail. It is a 15min radio programme where children can listen to a song and a story and take part in some movement activities. I hope you enjoy it.

CBeebies: Here is another great resource to watch – just a short video clip from Minibeast Adventures with Jess about feeding snails and how they eat!

Snail Art: This is a picture called The Snail by Henri Matisse. It was created by tearing paper to make the spiral shape. Why not have a go at tearing up some coloured paper to make your own spiral shape? Use any paper you have – it could even be from junk mail! You can glue it down or just place it on a flat surface. Here is the original picture, along with a few ideas for you.

Drawing challenge: A return to the popular drawing challenges today – a snail!

Finally: We like to go out on a welly walk on a Wednesday afternoon. Look back for previous ideas for things to spot – maybe minibeast I-Spy, bee spotting or re-visit the rainbow collection activity. Choose your favourite.

Have a great day – look our for more minibeasts tomorrow. I will give you a clue – this creature can fly, it has black and yellow on it, it collects pollen from flowers and it can buzz.
