15th November 2019

Spellings
This week’s words to learn are:

berry

bury

heel

heal

he’ll

This week’s words are all homophones. Please help your child to learn the spellings and meanings of each homophone

In the spelling test, I will expect the children to spell the correct homophone spelling according to the sense / context of the sentence.

EXTRA CHALLENGE: this week I reminded the children of the rules for adding the suffix -ly to an adjective to make adverbs

Rule 1: just add -ly     eg brave … bravely

Rule 2: if the root word end in ‘y’ … change the ‘y’ to an ‘i’ and then add -ly  … eg happy …. happily

Rule 3: if the root word end in ‘le’ … change the ‘le’ to  ‘ly’   . eg gentle …. gently

Rule 4: if the root word ends in ‘ic’ just add -ally … eg magic …. magically

If you want to have a go at the challenge, make a list of words that follow each rule. Good Luck.

This week’s times tables to learn are:

12 x’

We will test the children up to 12 times 12.

On Friday after school, please ask your child their score.
