Weekly spellings and times tables

Reading – Please encourage your child to read over the weekend. It’s also great for children to have the opportunity to read with an adult. Please write in their Reading Record Books and ensure these come back on Monday. If children need to complete a book quiz at home, then simply follow the link- https://ukhosted74.renlearn.co.uk/2236795/default.aspx

TT Rockstars – We really want the children to develop their times tables this academic year. We have set up an account on TT Rockstars for the children and their username is stuck in the back of their Reading Records. To access the website, follow this link – Times Tables Rock Stars: Play (ttrockstars.com) By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12 and TT Rockstars is a fantastic way to help your child achieve this.

Lexia- For those of you that also have Lexia accounts, why not login at home? Who knows, maybe you’ll make it onto our leaderboard in the 2%er assembly on Thursdays! – Lexia Core5 Reading – Login and Student Program

Topic- Our new topic next term is called ‘Misty Mountain, Winding River’. A knowledge organiser was sent home today which outlines everything we will be teaching the children next term. In preparation for our new topic, perhaps you could complete one of the projects below:

-Make a famous mountain out of junk modelling and find out some information about it using books and online sources

-Find out about a worldwide (or local) river and create a leaflet all about it

-Enjoy a riverside or hilltop walk with your family. Then use an Ordnance Survey map (or Google Earth) to find the river/hill.

Spellings

The spellings for after Christmas are:

often
opposite
ordinary
particular
peculiar

Spellings will tested on Friday 6th January 2023.
Parents: all words are selected from the age-appropriate National Curriculum list of statutory words. These are words your child has to know by the end of Year 4 (they should be familiar with these as they also began learning them in Year 3). Please encourage your child to practice at home during the week and carry out an occasional test to prepare them for Thursday morning.

Times Tables

We would like the children to start using ‘Speed Tables’. Children will be required to complete as much of the table as they can in 6 minutes. Practice sheets have been sent home for children to have a go on in preparation for the first week back. We have used these for a number of years and they can really help children master their times tables! Any questions, please ask.

On Friday after school, please ask your child to see their scores. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
