Maths No Problem: Textbook 5B Chapter 9 Geometry

Lesson 9: Investigating angles in squares and rectangles.

In Focus: You will need different sized squared and rectangular pieces of paper.  What happens when you join the four corners? What shape does it make? When you add them together what do you get? As the rectangle has right angles it should look the same; is this correct? Will this rule work for the other quadrilaterals?

Do your shapes made out of the angles make 360º? Why is this? Are all your corner angles 90º? Pupils will need to explore the fact that even though the angles are not all 90º, the combined total still makes 360º.

In Focus: Follow Let’s Learn section to explore the corners and angles.

Guided Practice: Look at identifying 90º and 180º angles on quadrilaterals and using the information provided to find the missing angles.

Workbook: Complete Worksheet 9, pages 63 – 64.

English

Reading: Your child should try to read for at least 20 minutes every day.

Remember to log on to Accelerated Reader and complete quizzes for all the books you have read!

If you have a Lexia account, try to log on and complete at least 15 minutes a day.

Writing Task:

Follow the link attached, Maxs Modal verbs activity sheet to complete a grammar revision sheet.  Please do not print it out, I would like you to write out the scale and the sentences in your journal to complete the tasks.

Follow the link to one of our favourite games and find as many modal verbs in the wordsearch as you can.  You can restart by clicking the menu icon – the three lines in the bottom left hand corner.  Can you find all the modal verbs in the wordsearch in as short a time as possible?  Remember you can go on the spinner first to remind yourself of what a modal verb is!  Let me know what your times are!

Topic:

Making Natural Art:

The Woodland Trust have come up with a variety of activities to help keep children busy during this time. Art and crafts are a great way for the children to be creative and inspired by the natural world.

They suggest collecting fallen leaves, petals and sticks and use them to make a picture or sculpture. You could even use the objects as ‘stampers’ or paintbrushes – dipping them in paint and rolling, brushing or stamping them on paper to create interesting patterns and effects.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a great amount of materials readily available – just use whatever you can find. We would love to see any photographs of your wonderful creations!
